Get Organized

THIS admonition applies not only to workers, students or even our civil servants.

It is a call that all of those engaged in the theory and practice of biotechnology must heed, if they are serious enough to pursue the immense possibilities opened by the revolution in knowledge and the methods of modern genetics and agriculture.

The call acquires its own logic when applied to biotechnology, a field that has an enormous value to Philippine agriculture that continues to be hobbled by age-old farming practices.

Indeed, BIONet must not only get organized. It must also organize and one way of doing this is to promote the idea of biotechnology as a saving grace for agriculture.

With an expanding population and a hefty reduction in hectarage devoted to agriculture, the only option left is for farmers to accept advances in agricultural biotechnology, with new disease-free and nutrient fortified crops presenting the opportunities to earn more.

This is the very reason for being for BIONet and it is the reason for being for this newsletter.

It can be a single spark that would start a prairie fire.
